Chess Victoria is the not-for-profit peak body for chess in the state of Victoria. Founded in 1938 (incorporated in 1983, renamed in 2000), it's one of seven state associations under the Australian Chess Federation. It fosters, governs, and organizes chess through affiliations with local clubs

2026 Victorian Championship Hosted by Melbourne Chess Club on behalf of Chess Victoria Saturday Evenings 7.15pm August 22 - 24 October (29 August skipped due to Best in the West) REGISTRATION PAGE WHERE: Melbourne Chess Club, 66 Leicester St, Fitzroy, VIC Dates (Saturday Nights at MCC): 9 Rounds (all at 7.15 pm): Round 1 22nd August Round 2 5th September Round 3 12th September Round 4 19th September Round 5 26th September Round 6 3rd October Round 7 10th October Round 8 17th October Round 9 24th October ENTRY FEES: $100 Full, $90 Concession / Junior. GMs/WGMs and IMs/WIMs free. Late Fee: $10 addition if paid after Thursday 13 August. PRIZES Premier: 1st $1500, 2nd $750, 3rd $450. Playoff for 1st Place and Title. Prize money shared. Reserves: 1st $750, 2nd $450, 3rd $300. Rating Group Prizes: 1st $300, 2nd $200. Playoff for 1st Place. Prize money shared. FORMAT: Premier; 10 person Round Robin. Reserves; 9 Round Swiss. Premier - 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move Reserves - 75 minutes plus 30 seconds per move BYES (FOR RESERVES ONLY) : Up to 2 half point byes allowed in rounds 1-7. Eligibility: Premier Division: 10 player, 9 round robin tournament. Players are invited to apply viaHumanatix, The highest 10 FIDE rated players (August FIDE rating) will be accepted by Thursday 20 August 5 pm. Entry is also reserved for the Current Victorian Champion and the winner of the 2025 Reserves Division should the wish to play. Reserves Division: 9 round Swiss tournament. Open to all other players until capacity limit is reached (120 players). The winner of the Reserves will automatically qualify for the Premier Division in 2027 Victorian Championship. Payments: For players that do not make the cut in the Premier Division will automatically be placed in the Reserves Closing date: Friday 21th August 5 pm FORFEIT TIME: 30 minutes after published round start time CHIEF ARBITER: FA Daniel Poberezovsky (0481 256 546, dpoberezovsky@gmail.com) ORGANISER: Thai Ly ( 0421 912 296, melbchessclub@gmail.com) RATING: The event will be ACF and FIDE rated.
